HOW SPECIAL IS ...A WHITE DEVON
A white Devon Rex ...or any cat for that matter is very special. Most folks think of white as the absence of color. But actually it is the combination of color. In cats white is like an overcoat. It covers up any other color that a cat may be carrying. It is considered genetically the dominant color over all others.
Solid white cats in nature are not very prevalent. Even though white is the dominant color, we see very few white felines. Mother nature chooses to camouflage its animals as a source of protection. White stands out noticeably against most colors in nature. It makes the white cat vulnerable to predators.
I have always had a preference for solid white Devon. Though my very first Devon were not white, whites soon became the norm. During the 1980's Kotickee showed more white Devon in CFA then any other color or any other person for that matter. The judges would often refer to the Kotickee Devon ...as those beautifully coated white Texas Devon!
Our Grand Champion, National Winner Kotickee's Rassy Sassoul, DM was the first National Winning CFA Allbreed Devon Rex. She was of course ...white. Her father Champion Kotickee's Raoul, DM was the first Distinguished Merit Devon Rex Winner in CFA and he too was white. Many white Kotickee Devon Rex followed in the show ring ...Grand Champions, Grand Premiers, Regional and National Winning Breed Winners.
We will no doubt have white Devon in our breeding program no matter how small. Nothing is more beautiful than a lovely little white kitten with its big ears, inquisitive eyes and unique velvety coat covering its body. A Kotickee White Devon Rex is truly a part of CFA history and the history of the breed.
Why not make your next kitten a white Kotickee Devon!
